The Premise
We all know it's fun to head to the target range with a buddy and see how well we can hit the target. With Makarovniks spread all over the globe, it's hard to get together all at once. So, we decided to put together a postal match.

Just in case some hoplophobic gun control nuts stumble on this page, a postal match has nothing to do with shooting up a post office or "going postal." The postal part means that the targets are sent through the mail to be scored.

How Does it Work?
Basically, we decide on a standard target that everyone can access and a standard course of fire . Then, according to the rules of the match, you take your targets to the range, do your best, and then submit the targets for scoring. Since nobody can really control who does what, this is largely on an honor system. Please don't abuse it.

What are the Rules?

Yes, I'm sorry...there are lots of rules.  This is the age of litigation.  Please read carefully!

• By participating in this match, whether or not you actually submit targets, you implicitly agree to these terms.
• You are responsible for your own safety and the safety of those around you, including eye and ear protection.
• You must shoot with a Makarov pistol, either 9x18Makarov,  .380ACP caliber, .32 NAA. Other pistols chambered in 9x18 Makarov (but not .380ACP) are welcome to participate (although you will be placed in a separated class). Please, no exceptions. There will also be a class for Makarov Pistols with the .22 LR Conversion Unit. The intent is not to be snooty, but we want to do some studies of equipment performance when we're all done.
• No age restriction; shooters under 18 must have parental consent and supervision.
• All entries must be postmarked on or before May 1, 2008.  This deadline was extended due to Bad weather in many parts of the country.
• Only one entry per person, per class.
• All scoring, qualification decisions, and prize awarding of Makarov.com or its agents are final.
• Anyone not following the procedure (below) will be disqualified.
• We reserve the right to disqualify any targets and any shooter for any reason.  Typically, this will only be done for obvious rule violation.
• Makarov.com, Inc. and any of its owners or employees are not liable for any damages or injury resulting from participating in this match.
• Any standing freehand (no leaning on stationary objects) position, single or double-handed, is acceptable; wheelchair or other disabled persons may, of course, make the necessary modifications to this rule.
• If bullet hole (not secondary paper tears) touches ring, higher score is assigned.
• All targets become property of Makarov.com and will not be returned.  If you wish to have the targets back, please include a self-addressed, stamped enveloped with enough postage to cover return shipping.
• Makarov.com privacy policy applies (see order information page under "security and privacy" for details).  We only use shipping information to send prizes.  We do not use any personal information for marketing and we never, ever, give or sell personal information to others.  We know you get enough junk mail. 
• We will post contestants' names and scores on our web page before May 30, 2008.  If you do not wish to have your name posted, please let use know in writing with your targets.  Keep in mind that we will not send out individual scoring information by e-mail.  The only way to find out your score relative to others is on the results web page.

What is the Procedure/How do I Enter?
While each postal match can have its own procedure, here's how we're doing it:

Get the target file and print out at least 3 copies.  You may want to print more for practice.

Pistol target - standard pistol target, similar to NRA B2.

IDPA Mini target.  You must use Adobe Acrobat Reader to open this file, which can be downloaded for free at the link provided.

Courses of Fire: (Note, there is no time limit, and pistols may be reloaded as needed)

Target 1 (Mini Bullseye target) - 7 rds @ 7yds, First round DA, last 6 rds single action, two hand or strong hand

Target 2  (Mini Bullseye target) - 7rds @ 15yds, First round DA, last 6 rds single action, All shots fired Strong hand only.

Target 3  (Mini Bullseye target) - 7rds @ 15yds, First round DA, last 6 rds single action, All shots fired Weak hand only.

Target 4 (Mini IDPA target) - 7rds @ 21 yds, All shots Single Action.

Total of 28 rds fired, High possible score is 210 + 35 = 245

Bonus points:

Add one point for every shot in the X ring on the Bullseye targets

Add 5 points if every shot is within the scoring rings on ALL targets

• Shooter's name
• Target number (1, 2, or 3 matching courses of fire above)
• Signature of witness
• Your score - note: unscored targets will be disqualified...we will double-check, but do not have time to score them all!

Fill out 3" x 5" index card with the following:

• Name
• Shipping address
• E-mail address
• Daytime telephone number
• Type of Makarov, e.g. country of origin, caliber, fixed/target sight, 8 or 10/12 round, etc.
• Brand/type of ammunition including bullet weight. Reloaded ammunition should include powder type, charge, case overall length, primer brand, brass type.
• Any modifications, including but not limited to barrel replacement, recoil spring, sight replacement, gunsmithing or trigger work.

How do I get the Targets?
Please use the Adobe Acrobat program and target file above.  The targets must be the correct size or you will be disqualified. 

What do I get out of this?
Mainly to have fun. Praise and honors will be bestowed for winners of each category including your name in cyberspace on Makarov.com.   We also be awarding some small prizes donated by Several Gunboards Members, and Makarov.com, LLC

What are the Different Classes ?
These are the current categories. They may expand as we go along:

• Best overall score (any qualifying Pistol, see list below)
• Best Makarov (Any Caliber)
• Best Non-Makarov  (Includes, PA63, P64, CZ82, CZ83 or any other handgun chambered in 9x18 Makarov Caliber)
• Best stock (no modification) Makarov
• Best 22 LR Conversion  Makarov

What are the Prizes?
While we hope to give worthwhile prizes, there are always those who abuse an honor system for the sake of personal gain. The winner, 2nd and 3rd place of each non-gag category will receive prize yet to be determined. If anyone would like to contribute a prize, please drop us a line.  So far the Prize Pool includes;

What else do I need to know?
Mainly have fun. Don't be too competitive; you're not trying out for the KGB here. We will try to get some correlation between equipment, ammo type, and score to it's important that your mark each target as requested above. Any other information you can give is even better.
